My knuckles are all cracked and bleeding from washing hands so much. I guess I need to use more lotion.

The parents of one of my co-workers were on that cruise ship that was "stuck" off California for a time. Her dad died last night. Her mom might make it through it.

Early on in this, one of the Canadian prognosticators (didn't pay enough attention as to who) suggested that by the time it was all done, everyone in Canada would either know someone that died, or know someone that knew someone that died. So no more then one degree of separation.

I've tried to avoid news. Filtered facts injected with emotion was literally making me crazy.
But I have been looking at statistics and reading about some of the studies being done. And while still pretty terrible, it's not as bad as the media seems to want us to believe. But I have also seen how fucking stupid people are, and if the media wasn't scaring the crap out of them, nobody would be doing jack shit to slow it down. I do see that the sheltering in place is slowing it down. But understand that is the goal, to buy time and soften the blow to the healthcare system. Even if the same number of people get sick, spreading it out over time will allow the healthcare system to deal with it better. Anyway... let's look at Italy, because for now, they have been the hardest hit. Though Spain may have taken that spot over yesterday. Using round numbers.. Italy has a population 60,000,000 people. As of today, they have had 15,000 fatalities due to C19. But statistics show they are "over the hump" and they are seeing fewer deaths per day than a week ago. So lets double the fatalities to 30,000. That's 0.05% That's 5 people out of 10,000. And that's in an area seeing the worst of it. There are other causes of death that kill more people than that, that we just accept as part of life. But they usually aren't contagious, and they don't all happen over the course of a 3 or 4 months. Meanwhile, due to all the sheltering in place and other precautions being taken, one study reports a 45% drop in flu cases in March. Fewer car accidents as well. So other causes of death are lower. It's possible that due to the precautions, we end up with a net positive. But... Poverty kills people too, just in different ways. I'm hoping the economy is able to take the strain and recovers quickly.

Yep, for a few more weeks. He was offered a talent scholarship from the vocal music department at a 2 year college in KC for next year. His best buddy was offered the same scholarship.

Well, if Simon's graduation gets rescheduled, consider yourself invited.
