I have been an avid chess player for years. Recently my wife has indicated interest in playing as well. The best way to learn is by doing, so I decided to start playing chess with her. I try to take it easy on her, but she does not seem to grasp the concepts of the game. She loses every game. We will play a few games, and I will win all of them and she will get up in a huff and leave. Then she will refuse to play for a week or two.
What do you think would help her learn to play chess? Should I let her win? |

Let her win or risk being beaten over the head with the chess board.

Do the chess pieces fit comfortably anywhere on or in your anatomy? Because if the answer is no, I suggest you either play more "open" games, where you can help advise her of potential moves and potential consequences of thos moves, let her win more (which won't help her get better but will save you) or be prepared to have trouble sitting.

I think she's toying with you.. knowing that if she beat you as a "new" player, it would crush your sensitive ego.

Let her win and reap the rewards that are sure to follow!
